[The age-related aspects of gouty nephropathy]. / Vozrastnye aspekty podagricheskoi nefropatii.

The incidence of podagric nephropathy in different age groups was studied on a large populational material (41,452 persons over 30 years). The number of patients suffering from podagra was shown to increase with each decade of life. In 122 patients with podagric nephropathy, deviations in urinalyses were recorded in 80 cases (65.5%). Of these, 53 patients (72.6%) were ot 60 years of age and older. In patients over 60, derangement of nitrogen-excretory renal function was seen more frequently (in 64.4%) than in other age groups. The greater incidence of podagra and podagric nephropathy over the recent decade may be related not to the changes in the nutrition pattern and hypodynamia but also, and possibly to a larger measure, with deterioration of the environmental conditions and alterations in radiation background.

[The comparative characteristics of the immunomodulating properties of protein A from Staphylococcus aureus of different origins]. / Sravnitel'naia kharakteristika immunomoduliruiushchikh svoistv belka A Staphylococcus aureus razlichnogo proiskhozhdeniia.

The immunomodulating properties of highly purified staphylococcal protein A and its analog obtained by gene engineering techniques have been compared with those of commercial preparations. The comparison has shown that the differences observed in this investigation may be explained by the presence of admixtures of staphylococcal nature in commercial preparations. The preparations of highly purified staphylococcal and recombinant protein A stimulate humoral immune response and the processes of phagocytosis and do not show mitogenic activity with respect to T cells. The conclusion on the identity of the immunomodulating activity of the preparations of natural and recombinant protein A has been made.

A comparative estimation of IgG-binding activity of 85 S. aureus clinical strains was carried out by the method of indirect hemagglutination reaction. The S. aureus strain selected as a result of screening was found to exceed by more than an order the Cowan I strain obtained from the L. A. Tarasevich State Institute of Standards and Control of the Medical Biological Drugs in the IgG-binding activity. It was established that the ratio of two types of IgG-binding sites located on the S. aureus surface, varied depending on the strain, composition and quality (liquid or solid) of the culture medium.

[Seronegative rheumatoid arthritis in adolescents]. / Seronegativnyi revmatoidnyi artrit u podrostkov.

Of 116 persons who developed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as teen-agers, 56 were seronegative for RF a long period of time. Clinicolaboratory and x-ray manifestations in this group of patients were analyzed. Adolescents with seronegative RA presented a heterogeneous group requiring further investigation.
